Public
lands are one of Utah's
greatest treasures.
Nearly 80 percent
of the state is managed
for public use by
federal and state
agencies. Enjoyed
by common citizens,
these places of interest
are molded and shaped
into pleasing patterns.
Like paintings, they
are splashed and swirled
with color in bold
and subtle arrangements.
Utah is truly nature's
work of art.
The
BLM (Bureau of Land
Management), an agency
within the U.S. Department
of the Interior, administers
264 million acres
of America's Public
Lands, located primarily
in 12 Western States.
Their mission is to
sustain the health,
diversity and productivity
of public lands for
the use and enjoyment
of present and future
generations.
Over
forty percent of Utah's
land is administered
by the BLM for public
use. From western
deserts, dry lake
beds, to mountain
terrain, these areas
are great for outdoor
recreation and rejuvenating
your spirit and include
hiking, fishing, hunting,
boating, horseback
riding, bird-watching,
off-roading, camping,
and visiting historical,
and archeological
sites.
BLM
Information Centers
are also available
to assist visitors
with essential and
detailed information.
These centers offer
books and maps for
purchase. They include:
