Music
in the Mountains
Maybe
it's because the awe-inspiring mountain vistas of Park
City make one want to break out in song that the town
has become such a mecca for musicians and musical admirers
as well. Cool summer temperatures and lush mountain foliage
make a gorgeous backdrop for the strains of symphonies,
chamber music, jazz, bluegrass or rock n' roll during
a Park City summer.
Music
in the Mountains, Park City's annual summer-long music
festival, offers a varied schedule of musical happenings
throughout town. The Utah Symphony performs open-air concerts
at Deer Valley Resort Saturday nights during July and
August, while the community comes together each Wednesday
evening in City Park to enjoy local performing artists
throughout the summer. Residents and visitors alike are
serenaded by a wide array of music each Saturday afternoon
as they explore Main Street or dine al fresco at any of
the historic district's fine restaurants.
Festivals,
popular among music enthusiasts, are even more special
when the mountains set the stage. Summer visitors to the
area have the opportunity to experience spectacular concerts
by some of the world's top performers during these multi-day
events, including Park City's annual Founder's Title Folk
& Bluegrass Festival and the second-annual Fidelity Investments
Park City International Jazz Festival. The long-standing
Park City International Music Festival brings the most
promising students and gifted teachers from around the
world to town for a month of intense instruction and glorious
performances. The festival's Summer Institute for Gifted
Young Artists runs from mid-July through mid-August with
public concerts at locations throughout town.
Both
The Summit Institute for the Arts and Humanities and the
Park City Performing Arts Foundation offer myriad cultural
performances throughout the summer, including musical
programs. In late June and early July, the Summit Institute
presents a chamber music festival featuring the Muir String
Quartet.
Live
music from country western to rock n' roll to piano to
jazz is offered at a variety of Park City nightclubs and
restaurants as well, and live jazz is performed at the
Main Street Mall each Saturday evening.
Summer
in Park City means music everywhere. Concert goers find
themselves appreciating the many wonderful and diverse
offerings amidst unique settings, whether it be the bandstand
at City Park, the scenic outdoor amphitheater on Deer
Valley's slopes, a 1300-seat state-of-the-art performance
center, a hopping nightclub on historic Main Street, or
a cozy mountain resort bar or restaurant.
