Many
ski towns offer only skiing and snowboarding. That's definitely
not the case in Park City. The winter sports enthusiast
can do a lot more than simply ski or snowboard here, such
as dashing through the snow in a horse-drawn sleigh, ice
skating in a quaint village setting, flying high above
town in a hot-air balloon or revving up a snowmobile for
a thrilling ride into the backcountry.
CROSS-COUNTRY
SKIING: Whether
skating around a groomed track or savoring the solitude
of the backcountry, Park City offers the Nordic skier
satisfying choices. The White Pine Touring Center has
18km of groomed track while the Hi-Ute Ranch offers 15
km of track. Nearby in Midway, The Homestead Resort offers
of skating and traditional track skating on 12 km. Also,
the Norwegian Outdoor Exploration Center will gently guide
Nordic skiers through the scenic backcountry in the nearby
Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
ICE
SKATING: An outdoor ice-skating rink
is located at The Resort Center, near the base of the
Park City Mountain Resort. Named as one of the top ice
rinks in Ski magazine.
INTERCONNECT
TOUR: Experience a day not soon forgotten
skiing Park City, Solitude, Brighton, Alta and Snowbird
in one day via the Ski Utah Interconnect Tour. Guided
tours span the five resorts via the backcountry for a
fee of $125 per person, which includes guides, lift tickets,
transportation back to Park City and lunch.
SILVER
MINE ADVENTURE: Discover how Park City's
earliest residents lived and made the town one of the
largest and most successful mining towns in the country.
This authentic mine tour allows visitors the opportunity
to go underground 1,500 feet and see for themselves just
what miners experienced on a daily basis. A museum above
ground has numerous displays explaining Park City's initial
"boom," long before skiing was discovered.
SNOWMOBILING: Snowmobile tours are available
for one-hour or up to an all-day adventure. Tour guides
lead groups to spectacular vistas via scenic backcountry
trails. Self-guided tours and dinner tours are also available.
SNOWCAT
SKIING: Park City Powder Cats offer guided
backcountry snow cat skiing for all abilities in the pristine
wilderness. The cost includes transportation, breakfast,
lunch and powder skis.
SNOWSHOEING:
Snowshoeing is a great way to see all that
the mountains surrounding Park City has to offer, away
from the resorts. Both the Norwegian Outdoor Exploration
Center and Sport touring Adventures lead tours, including
day trips and overnight camping in snow caves or a yurt.
SPECIAL
EVENTS: Park City activities continue
with special events such as America's Opening World Cup
races, the Sundance Film Festival, the Snow Sculpture
& Winterfest in February, more and more world cup events
as the Olympics near and a cultural calendar for every
taste in the book.
