 Utah Travel Center LDS Joseph Smith Memorial Building


Formerly the Hotel Utah from 1911 to 1987
Original building completed on June 9, 1911
Closed as the Hotel Utah on August 31, 1987
Renovation and restoration began in 1990
Building dedicated and reopened on June 27, 1993
Original features remaining are: exterior of white terra-cotta, the restored areas of entry level and rooms, the mezzanine area, the dining areas on the 10th floor
LDS Church offices on eight floors
Sunday services held in chapel on mezzanine level 468,433-square-foot building
Four-level underground parking area for maximum of 350 vehicles
Areas of interest for guests:

    • Front lobby reception area with 3,950-pound marble statue of       Joseph Smith designed after statue on Temple Square; statue       in lobby stands 9 feet tall
    • Mezzanine level exhibiting the original architecture
    • Family History Library archives and FamilySearch® Center
    • The Legacy Theater
    • Scenic outlooks on 10th floor
    • Restaurants on top floor
