Roosevelt
Country. You
can see stagecoaches, deer, bison and Lamar wolves in
this region which recaptures the Old West. Check with
any Visitor Center for information.
Tower
Fall. The 132 foot
Tower Fall with volcanic pinnacles is a favorite attraction.
The Bannock Trail, an old Native American route runs
through the dramatic landscape leading to Roosevelt
Lodge. The area is known for rolling hills covered in
sagebrush, pine, fir, aspen and spruce and streams teaming
with trout.
Petrified
Forests. Often called Yellowstone's
"forests of stone" the petrified forests contain
well preserved samples of ancient plants and standing
trees. Buried by volcanic eruptions, ancient trees and
plants became fossils over time. Some of the best vertical
stumps can be seen at Specimen Ridge.
Roosevelt
Country Trails. Calcite
Springs Overlook and Tower Fall trails offer spectacular
overlooks as well as fascinating geological formations.
Longer trails feature the Lamar Valley, trout streams,
fossil forests and mountainous terrain.
Lodging
in Roosevelt Country.
Roosevelt
Lodge Cabins are rustic cabins built in 1916 tucked
in the trees near Tower Falls. This was Teddy Roosevelt's
favorite area of the park. The cabins have wood burning
stoves without private baths. Showers and restrooms
are located throughout the cabin areas. Old West cookouts
are a favorite at Roosevelt Lodge. You can also ride
on a stagecoach at Tower-Roosevelt!
