UTC Points of Interest Geography • Boulder Mountain

Boulder Mountain (Garfield County) is north of Boulder City and south of Grover and Teasdale. The mountain makes up the eastern section of the Aquarius Plateau. It was named by Almon Thompson of the Powell survey. "Boulder Mountain" is the term local inhabitants use most frequently rather than the name Aquarius Plateau. Through a combination of common usage and early name assignment, the present-day Aquarius Plateau has been unofficially divided into three sections. The eastern area is Boulder Mountain, the western section is Escalante Mountain, and the central areaas well as the entire plateauis the Aquarius Plateau. The name "Boulder" refers to the numerous large lava and sandstone boulders in the area.
