Delta, Utah

One of the signs that winter is on it’s way out is the annual congregation of Lesser Snow Geese in the area around Delta. Each February thousands of these beautiful white birds use the fields and waters between Clear Lake Wildlife Management Area and Delta as a rest stop on their northern migration. Please visit the Snow Goose Festival website for more information.

West Desert

Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge is nearly to the Nevada border via the Pony Express Trail. It’s a long drive through the solitude of the West Desert, but is well worth the trip to view the waterfowl and shorebirds of this verdant oasis. In distinct contrast to the surrounding desert, this 10,000-acre marsh is fed by underground springs. During spring and fall migrations, an eleven-mile auto tour allows viewing of hundreds of Canada geese, swans, blue heron, egrets, and other migrating birds.

Clear Lake Waterfowl Management Area, west of Delta is a marsh environment populated by waterfowl, ducks, curlews, snowy egrets and more.

Fishlake National Forest

Fish Lake Basin offers an exquisite setting to see everything from deer, chipmunks, and the Utah prairie dog (a threatened species), to huge flocks of waterfowl and shorebirds.
