Weather in Beautiful Utah

The weather in Utah is as varying and unique as its landscape. Just as it has lowlands and mountains, which are vastly different formations, it has extreme heat and chilling cold. The state of Utah, from the land to the weather and everything in between, can offer a million different experiences throughout the year.
To look at Utah more specifically, one can see that the northern and southern areas of the state differ greatly from each other, as well. While one area may maintain constant mild weather, the other can see intense extremes throughout the year. These differences in weather are important for travelers to understand since the weather can make or break an entire trip.
The differences between the northern and southern part of Utah are quite clear. Things like the seasons, temperatures, precipitation, and even humidity vary greatly between each area. To help travelers understand the difference between Northern and Southern Utah, the following will break down the weather in each area. Though the weather changes drastically and frequently throughout the state, visitors will always have an exciting and memorable time in Utah, no matter what the weather may have in store.

Northern Utah

The area of Northern Utah differs greatly when it comes to weather due in part to elevation changes and the location where the weather is observed. Generally, the farther north, the lower the temperatures will be. Also, the higher the elevation the lower the temperatures and the more intense the precipitation. The following data is based on a central area of Northern Utah with an average elevation. Travelers wishing to have more precise weather data on the location they will be traveling to can consult the local weather forecast.

Changing Seasons

Winter

From December to March, the coldest months of the year occurs. During the winter, snowfall in the northern part of Utah does occur, but it is most notable in the higher elevations. The temperatures are quite chilly but rarely drop below the ten-degree mark. Since northern Utah is usually dry, but sometimes experiences mild humidity, ice can be a worry during the coldest months, as well. There are many people who enjoy the weather of Northern Utah in the winter and travel to the area for skiing and other winter hobbies.

Spring

March to June is the spring season of Utah. In Northern Utah, spring means quickly rising temperatures, increased precipitation, and longer hours of daylight. Rainfall is at its highest in mid-spring, which ushers in new life through the spring and summer. At this time, more visitors start to arrive to enjoy various outdoor activities. The spring is one of the most beautiful times to enjoy Northern Utah.

Summer

During the months of June to September, the hot season arrives in Northern Utah. Temperatures can range from mild, at around seventy degrees Fahrenheit to downright oppressive, soaring into the triple digits. The hottest time of day in the summer is between mid-afternoon to early evening. Those who do not mind higher temperatures will enjoy Northern Utah during the summer months.

Fall

September to December is fall, or autumn, in Utah. This is one of the most popular times of year for visitors to come to the area. The temperature is the mildest during this time, with the average being around sixty to seventy degrees Fahrenheit. Rainfall is fairly low at this time, as well. For those looking for mild weather during their trip to Northern Utah, fall is the perfect time to visit.

As stated, there are many places in Northern Utah that have different temperatures than those listed above. This is a snapshot of the averages throughout a typical year. Higher elevations will experience colder temperatures and more snowfall, while some areas are hardly ever cold or snowy. Southern Utah

Just as in Northern Utah, the weather in Southern Utah depends greatly on the elevation and location of the area. This data looks at a location with average elevation and a location in the middle of Southern Utah. Different parts of Southern Utah will have different information, so it is important for travelers to look at their destination to get the best idea of what the weather will be. Seasonal Beauty
Winter
December to March visitors are likely to experience cold temperatures, snowfall, and ice in Southern Utah. Lower altitudes will see much less snow than on the mountains, but it is not unheard of for Southern Utah to turn into a winter wonderland. The beauty of Southern Utah is even more impressive during the winter months.

Spring

During the months of March to June, the temperature begins to rise, there is more sunlight during the day, and it begins to rain more frequently. Toward the end of spring, the temperature starts to rise further and plant and animal life burst into growth in preparation for summer. This change of season makes Southern Utah and its many parks the perfect place for outdoorsmen to enjoy.

Summer

The hottest time of the year in Southern Utah, June to September are very popular months among outdoor enthusiasts. The temperature can rise significantly, sometimes surpassing one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. The rainfall tends to slow down toward the end of the season, making it a great time to get outdoors and explore.

Fall

September to December are the more temperate months of the year. During the fall, the leaves begin to change and the weather is usually quite mild. This time of year attracts visitors from far and wide. For those who prefer dry, temperate, and comfortable weather, fall is the perfect time to visit Southern Utah.

There are areas of Southern Utah which experience different temperatures than those in the middle of the south end of the state. For example, areas like St. George and other places farther southeast experienced much warmer temperatures throughout.
